They measured their hugs
Mother’s Day, May 2009
I love this one, taken by my husband with the five-year-old point and shoot. I can’t believe they stayed still long enough to remain in the same frame!
I had a wonderful mother’s day with my two little monkeys and one sweet hubby. We had a great morning—breakfast out, and a walk in a nearby seaside town. All this was completed by about 11 a.m., since Will got up an hour early because he was SO DARN EXCITED to give me his Mother’s Day gifts.
At nursery school they MEASURED THEIR HUGS, PEOPLE. I can’t think of anything cuter. They made a little paper pocket (embellished with a portrait of me and Will. My fingers are approximately the same length as my arms. I so love it.) and inside they tucked a long thin strip of paper, noting that this is the length of his hug. (Along with it was a lovely hand-sewn (by Will) felt sachet.) Delicious.
When I am 85, I will wrap that strip of paper around me and remember what it felt like to have a four-year-old boy wake up at 5:40 a.m. because he wanted me to open the gifts he had made for me. Home run, nursery school teachers, at least if you were aiming for tears of joy!
Henry’s sweet little handprints on a wall hanging were no slouch, either.
The only thing I didn’t get was the extra time in each day that I had asked for. Maybe next year?
And speaking of a happy mother’s day…I snitched this off my sister’s Facebook page. Both babies off breathing support in this image (they’ve been back and forth back on CPAP and under bili lights, but are doing very well.) Thanks for all the good wishes.

They measured their hugs?! That has got to be the cutest thing ever. Seriously, how sweet!
Wonderful post all around!!
I have to preface this by saying I’m pregnant…but the thought of you at 85 wrapping four-year-old Will’s hug around yourself made me tear up. And your sister and her babies look great. What a sweet post, Anna.
All together now – AWWWWW! That is too dang sweet. Happy FIRST Mother’s Day to your sister!
Happy MD!
I’m so far behind in my blog reading – it’s been forever since I’ve been here. I can’t believe how big the boys are getting! If it’s possible I even think they’re cuter. Love that photo!
Congrats on the new additions!
How sweet! What a perfect gift – and memory! Sounds like you had a nice day too. (One of my favorite things to do on weekends is head to any of the nearby seaside towns just to walk around for a few hours). And I’m glad to hear things are going well with your sister. It must have been a happy day all around.
Thanks for the tears … again!
