A question and a pimple

Do you believe it’s wrong to encourage ill-mannered behavior that you are ultimately going to abolish if you can encourage it just long enough to get it on video?

Just wondering. I’ll show you the evidence if we get it.

In other news, it seems like I will be facing the Real Simple cameras again next week, and I DON’T EVEN HAVE TO CLEAN MY HOUSE this time. I’m contemplating live blogging the experience, but I wonder how interesting that would be:

“I’m getting my hair blowdried right now. It’s really hot. He’s really tugging on it, too.”

“She’s putting lipstick on me right now. Kind of an almost-not-there mauve.”

Here’s the most interesting part of the whole thing.

I have a pimple the SIZE OF MY CAR in the process of erupting on my chin right now.

I don’t have a photo of it, but it looks a little like this:

I haven’t had one like this since about 1994, but from what I recall about these honkers, there is NO WAY it will be gone before I go to NYC next week. To have my picture taken. For a national magazine.

SIGH.

So here’s where you come in, dear readers. What is your best trick for minimizing, decreasing, hiding, de-reddening and otherwise kicking a pimple out of town? Give it to me. I want your techniques, products, prayers, you name it.

HELP ME.

And if you want to be on my Real Simple email casting list, just leave a comment below telling me you want in. Bloggers (and their lovely readers) are going to take over the WORLD.

If I recall….use ice (reduce size) and visine (reduce redness). Also those little dots that you can put on your face and go to sleep do help. I think neutrogena and clearasil make them… or I’m making that up.

windex! (kidding). funny that i just read your post after i ripped a salt shaker out of my daughter’s hand after she climbed up on the dinning table and shook it all over the place! i then put it back in her hand so i could take a photo! so, no, brief encouragement is okay. i sent you the photo-girls are so not easier than boys.

Is it okay that I feel some slight relief that it’s not just me? I’m sorry for the pimple, I am, but misery is loving company right now. I had a massive pimple on the side of my nose for ONE ENTIRE WEEK and I swear I wanted to walk around with a paper bag over my head. It’s gone now but there’s another one laughing at me from my left cheek.

Toothpaste, I hear, works. I’m with the pop it consensus.

I think I said yes to the Real Simple list last time around too but I don’t remember ever giving you an email address. I’ll post it here with the all-important spaces to thwart the evil-doers.

I’ve heard toothpaste can work wonders on a pimple, but I know a cortisone shot from a dermatologist is perhaps the best remedy.

And to answer your first question: I would absolutely encourage bad behavior if it meant good video. Ab. so. lutely.

Good luck with the photo shoot. Why not just ask them to do a little airbrushing? I am sure they would comply. When will the photo be out on the market? Please let me know and please put me on the list : )
Oh, and I think I read about the toothpaste trick. It can’t hurt to try! Anyway you look at it-it’s hard to mess with a natural beauty! CONGRATS AGAIN!

Put us on the list too.

No great tricks for the volcano, but maybe Jenn has a trick or two I don’t know about.

Good luck with your photo shoot next week. They are coming to my (tiny!) apartment on Saturday morning and I’m having quite the dilemma in deciding what to wear! Regarding the pimple, I like someone’s suggestion of Windex. 🙂

Mario Badescu’s Dry Lotin, works WONDERS, and if you order it now, your pimple will be gone by next week.

  17. B. on April 16, 2008 at 9:33 am

Windex! Great idea…I hear you can use it for just about everything. Please, please with the video. I five years will it matter? Maybe 😉

  18. Katy on April 16, 2008 at 10:00 am

go to your dermatologist and have him/her inject it with whatever it is they inject into supermodels’ pimples. i think it might be cortisone?

  19. laura on April 16, 2008 at 11:17 am

I go with the ice it, pop it (if it has a head, don’t touch if it’s deep), and then ice it again. The good news is that they’ll photoshop that sucker out of the pictures for the mag. In the meantime go for a good concealer. I’ve suddenly become a zitzo–I guess it’s the pregnancy.

YES, it’s okay to encourage not-okay behaviour so you can capture it forever! In fact, it’s one of the dictates of motherhood that you MUST do so.

You are a star, in RS again! I can’t wait for that issue, and I will boast to everyone that I know you. 😉 I don’t think I can add anything to all the great pimple advice here, seeing as I usually pop those suckers. I know, I’m bad…very very bad. Regardless, I am sure you will look lovely and it’s a piece of cake to zap a blemish out of a picture, so no worries!

I use Clean & Clear Advantage Acne Spot Treatment – “100% of people showed clearer skin in just one day.” That’s what it says on the tube. How can you argue with that? But seriously, it does seem to help. Good luck!

Please add me on to the Real Simple email casting list 🙂

  23. bunny on April 19, 2008 at 6:36 pm

Oooh I read Stephanie’s blog and this must be where/how she got on the casting list for RS. Can you please add me? Also, I love your blog, and (weird to follow with this, but…) I hope your pimple has died by now. 🙂

  24. bunny on April 19, 2008 at 6:37 pm

Okay there was not supposed to be TWO smiley faces in there. The winky face? Not on purpose. Stupid wordpress!

A little late to the party, but I use Proactiv, and they have an overnight buster, I believe. You may even be able to find it in a “Proactiv Vending Machine Near You” if you go to http://www.proactiv.com and click “Kiosk locater”.
