My 15th college reunion is coming up this weekend, and as a class officer doing the behind-the-scenes preparations, I’ve had my head squarely stuck in the late 80s and early 90s. You know, listening to my (thanks, Jess!) “Eighties Child” mix tape now on iTunes, reminiscing on our class blog and adding to our class Flickr pool of RIDICULOUS photos. And it wasn’t even that long ago. Yeesh.
So, in as a place holder for of some of those embarrassing photos I promised you for your generous March of Dimes donations (and I WILL post those next week, really!), today I give you this brief peek of my college years.
In the interest of full disclosure, these photos are specifically chosen for some of the people who read this blog regularly AND happen to be in some of those photos. For the rest of you, enjoy and DON’T ACT LIKE YOU DIDN’T WEAR LAURA ASHLEY DRESSES, TOO.
Who needs a handbag when you have an attempt at cleavage? You do see what we have stuck in there, right? Oh, and like our matching curls and matching pearls? Off to a formal dance, I think this was 1991 or 1992. I also think I may have had a bubble skirt on the bottom of that dress.
Michelle, I hope you are reading today, this one is for you! 🙂 Nice decor, eh? NOT MINE
Our senior formal dance. The flowers are blinding me.
I had to find different people to pose with–fewer flowers.
Sorry for the double post, Sarah, but I love this photo!
Easter weekend, senior year of college. These visitors were trying to distract me from my organic chemistry woes. They succeeded—I haven’t used organic chemistry since.
Oh Rebecca, can’t wait to see you this weekend!
First one to find me gets a prize! (No fair if you were in the photo with me.)
Wish you were coming this weekend, Anne! And p.s., can we all please admire how skinny my arms used to be?
From our senior week White Glove Brunch. I wonder what they wear now that Laura Ashley is out of business!
Kind of hard to explain what we were doing, but it was a time-honored college tradition.
Hope you enjoyed the peek back at 1992-93–and be thankful you aren’t wearing a Laura Ashley dress, white pumps and nude panty hose today!
NOTE: I did NOT ever wear the white pumps and hose. Some people in that era did.
I JUST NEED TO MAKE THAT CRYSTAL CLEAR.

These photos are PRICELESS. I’m a bit younger than you but I had little-kid flowered dresses that are remarkably similar to the ones in the pictures. I am so glad that those were out of fashion by the time I was in high school.
I know white gloves are supposed to be oh-so-elegant, but they just make me think of clowns. White glove clown brunch – that what I wanna be invited to.
Ahhh, them were the days.
Be sure to take a photo of your styling Crocs – for a future blog entry in 2023!
6th on the left getting squeezed out by a pink dress and a white dress (who I think is Maria?)
I love these pictures! My room growing up was all Laura Ashley!!! Hehehe I hope you have a great reunion!
Kate wins! Plus a bonus for identifying a classmate.
Though, in the interest of full disclosure, this is my sharp-eyed sister here. 🙂
Yes, I’m here reading – great pictures : ) Have fun at Reunion weekend, and tell anyone who remembers me that I say hi!
LOVE IT!! sad i’ll be missing the festivities, but i’ll have those photos to keep me company!
Wait, I’m not going to look back at pictures of myself in college in the early 2000s and laugh this hard, am I?!? Am I???
😀
oh i love these so much. when I found my photos of the beams in Everett, I was shocked that I’d managed to forget that ever happened. we don’t have a photo of the funniest part of that situation, though: the college president, dean, head of public safety, and head of buildings and grounds knocking on my roommate M’s room to see how far the damage from the collapse extended, and she’s frantically kicking dirty laundry in the closet and under the bed. Oh, plus wasn’t it spring weekend? it was REEDICULOUS.
think I might scan some more photos.
p.s. Dimple Diving, baby!
Oh, yes Sarah, PLEASE scan more photos, I could only find a batch from late senior year. Please more PLEASE!
I think I owned several of those Laura Ashley dresses myself! There is absolutely nothing wrong with big hair and lots of flowers – I sense a comeback. Have a great time at your College reunion this weekend. I can’t wait to hear the stories!
Oh my yes, I enjoyed this!
did you seriously scour my college scrapbooks…i’m on the FLOOR right now…ugh.
i love this look back. awesome stuff. i had a blast at my 15th…and I’m sure you will, too. god, and were our formals at the same place at the same time?I seem to remember an equal number of floral dresses!
I LOVE the photos. Those floral dresses, altogether in one picture? Are AWESOME.
I had that dress!
I didn’t even recognize you in the first picture! These are so fun.
This is so funny!!! I love your hair!
Ah, Laura Ashley. How I miss her so. All that FABRIC! All that glorious floral FABRIC to wrap yourself up in!
These are so great! I was a Laura Ashley fiend, too. I think I even had a Laura Ashley bedspread. Yikes!
My husband graduated just down the road at Boston University in ’93!
Jane
I just noticed the Mystic Seaport sticker in the photo with the girl with the Indian print shirt (I had at least 6 of those–shirts, not Mystic stickers).
Just wanted to state for the record that I have not worn a Laura Ashley dress.
🙂
